Two Andrews to star at CNY countdown in Richmond

In the spirit of the new Chinese year, Aberdeen Centre’s VIP guests for its big countdown night on Thursday will be the two newest political leaders in the country.

The newly-minted BC Liberal Party leader Andrew Wilkinson will be joined on stage to welcome in the Year of the Dog by federal Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer.

The Andrews will be among the star attractions at Aberdeen’s festivities from 8:30 p.m. on Thursday to 12:10 a.m. on Friday morning at the shopping centre’s Central Atrium.

From 8:30 to 10 p.m., the Fairchild Radio Pre-Countdown Stage Show will have lots of entertainment, followed at 10:30 by “Personal Blessings from the Chinese God of Fortune.”

From then on, it will be the “Live Countdown with Fairchild Television.”

On Friday, Aberdeen Centre’s Golden Dragon and Lion Dance takes place in its courtyard at 11 a.m.

And on Saturday, there will be a Chinese New Year Cultural Showcase in the Central Atrium, with the BC Chinese Music Association performing from 1 – 2 p.m., followed by the Vancouver Academy of Dance from 3 to 4 p.m.

On Sunday, Feb. 18, the Vancouver Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will perform from 1 to 2 p.m., followed at 3 p.m. by the Colors of Dance Academy.

While Aberdeen Centre’s Chinese New Year Flower & Gift Fair 2018 runs until Feb. 18.
