Update: Power has been restored to roughly half of the Steveston customers, but remains off for 2,457 customers located west of Britannia Drive and south of Steveston Highway. BC Hydro says the cause of that outage — and the outage in Ironwood — is due to a substation fault.
Over 7,000 BC Hydro customers are without power in Richmond this afternoon.
In Steveston, power is out for 5,212 customers located west of No. 3 Road and south of Steveston Highway.
Another 72 customers, located west of Leonard Road, south of Whiteoak Drive, north of Monteith Road and east of Hollymount Drive, are also without power.
And in the Ironwood area, an outage — located north of Finn Road, east of Gilbert Road, west of Highway 99 and south of Snowdown Avenue — is affecting 1,961 customers.
Ninety-one customers located west of Ryan Road, north of Roselea Crescent, east of Rosedene Crescent and south of Williams Road are also without power.
The power went out in the four locations around 2:30 p.m. Crews are on site in each of the affected areas, although B.C. Hydro hasn’t provided an estimate for when power will return.
The cause of the outages is also under investigation.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement earlier today warning of heavy rain and winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour, which will continue throughout Friday.
