Residents of Richmond and Metro Vancouver welcomed the New Year with a day of sunshine, but forecast is calling for heavy rain and wind until Friday evening.
Environment Canada issued a statement this morning, stating there will be rainfall and possibly wet snow, as well as winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour to pick up across Metro Vancouver today.
Rain will intensify through Friday with up to 80 millimetres to fall across the Lower Mainland.
Following this, rain will lighten and continue into Saturday.
The city is reminding residents to “be cautious during this time as trees/debris may fall or loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury/damage.”
Storm-related emergencies, such as broken traffic signals, hazardous or downed trees on streets, sidewalks or in public parks should be reported to the city’s 24-hour dispatch line at 604-270-8721.
