Bidding was fast and furious as 34 Terracotta Warriors went up on the auction block last Thursday night, raising money to benefit children with disabilities all across the province.
Nearly 300 guests showed up for The Great Terracotta Warrior Banquet and Auction held at Richmonds Continental Seafood Restaurant. At the end of the gala soiree, more than $170,000 was raised, from both the sale of the warriors and the live auction items, for the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities Easter Seals programs and services including Easter Seals House.
We exceeded our expectations, said Stephen Miller, the societys president and CEO. The evening went extremely well and the energy in the room was excellent.
Even though this was a limited edition project, per capita, we raised more money than we did with our eagles.
The average price paid for each of the seven-foot tall fiberglass sculptures was $4,300, but there were a few that fetched more than $6,000.
The most expensive were the Blue and White Porcelain Ware by artist Regina Liao, which went for $8,750; the Aging of Time by artist Dean Lauze sold for $8,250; Enlightened Warrior by artist Cathryn Jenkins sold for $6,750; and Past and Present by artist James Postill fetched $6,750.
