With physical distancing measures put in place, families will need to get creative with how they celebrate Mother’s Day this year on May 10.
Mother’s Day honours mothers and appreciate their roles in society and in families.
Here are 10 activities to celebrate the day while staying home:
Classic brunch in bed
Start Mother’s Day with a classic breakfast or brunch full of pancakes, eggs or brunch favourites in bed and a glass of mimosa. If cooking isn’t your forte, local brunch restaurants like Eggspectation and Steveston Seafood House are offering Mother’s Day brunch deals for takeout or delivery to help get your mom’s day started.
Build a flower bouquet from your garden
Many Richmond floral shops are still open and some such as Tim’s Florist and Touch of Flowers are offering free same-day delivery for Mother’s Day orders. Alternatively, you can put together a small bouquet of flowers from your garden. Not only do you get to be your mother’s personal florist, you get to save money at the same time.
Home-style spa
Grab a few nail polish options and pamper your mother with manicures and pedicures from the comfort of your home. If you have access to bath bombs or bubble bath soap, you can set up a homemade bath with candles for her to relax.
Cook or bake together
Whether it is an old family recipe or one your mom has wanted to try, Mother’s Day is the day to spend time together and get creative in the kitchen.
Get creative with crafts together
Homemade cards and crafts are often made at home and gifted on Mother’s Day, but this year, children and parents can work on a DIY craft together.
Set up a virtual gathering with the whole family
Even though families cannot physically be together, they can still celebrate and connect virtually whether it’s through Zoom, Google Hangouts or Facetime.
Throw a tea party
Set up a table, indoors or in the backyard, and enjoy tea and snacks together for a simple tea party. If you want to make it fancier, decorate the area and don’t forget to wear your dresses and suits.
Take a walk down memory lane
Spending some quality time is important and sometimes all it takes is a photo album to reminisce on past memories together.
Tackle a home décor project
Re-decorating the house is a family project and Mother’s Day is a day to grab a paint brush or hammer to make some changes to your home.
Take a walk outside or do a virtual workout
Great weather and company calls for an outdoor walk, just make sure you maintain a two-metre distance from others. An alternative is a virtual workout. Grab a laptop, find an empty space in your home and put on a workout video for you to enjoy with your mother. If you don’t live together, you can virtual call and set up the workout video from there.
