The City of Richmond is asking the public to step up and tell it what theyd like to see in their new City Centre Community Centre.

Currently in the public consultation phase, the new 33,000 sq. ft. centre scheduled for completion at its Minoru Boulevard and Firbridge Way location by 2014 will be two-storey facility located within a mixed-use development.

The city and the City Centre Community Association are managing the design of the new community centre.

But they want the public to have their say by way of a survey to communicate what should go on inside the building once its opened.

The design is currently being developed and may include spaces such as meeting rooms, childrens activity spaces, multi-purpose rooms, a games room and a lounge area, said Elizabeth Ayers, the citys community recreation services manager.

But we really want to get further input from the public to help ensure this centre is a great one for city centre residents. We are hoping lots of residents will take the survey.

The overall building, designed to LEED Gold standards, will be four-storeys with the top two floors occupied by post-secondary education institution Trinity Western University.

Residents will be offered a variety of modern, multi-purpose spaces for a range of community recreation programs and services for all ages and interests.

So whether its ballet or billiards, the downward dog (yoga) or praying mantis (martial arts), now is the time to tell the city what programs and services should be offered.

To take part, log onto www.citycentrerichmond.ca/survey by Tuesday, Sept. 27 and let the city know your thoughts. The survey is available in both English and Chinese.
