A grassroots summer series is back again this summer.

The second annual Summer Fun Nights, hosted by the East Richmond Community Association (ERCA) and Cambie Community Centre, begins Tuesday, July 19.

For four Tuesdays, young families are invited to take part in a fun evening filled with live musical performances, a fundraising barbecue/concession, face painting, bubble blowing and other games and activities.

To open the season, said Jay Howard, community facilities coordinator for the ERCA, the association is hosting its inaugural Outdoor Movie Night at 8:30 p.m.

We invite everyone to come out early to reserve your spot and come and see the animated movie, Despicable Me on a giant inflatable screen, Howard said. We ask that people bring a chair and blankets, and please leave your pets at home, said Howard. The entertainment on July 19 is The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Show with Brian Simpson and Eli Williams.

Last year, on average, between 50 and 100 people took part in the summer series. The park is already a busy one but on these nights it really is busy and the crowd has lots of fun.

The tug of war is especially fun for the kids ages six to 11.

The popular family fun nights in the park are held at the King George Park Gathering Place at No. 5 and Cambie roads, on Tuesdays, July 19, 26 and August 2 and 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 604-233-8399.
