In 1950, Jack Lubzinski and his younger brother Joseph were building boats in Steveston.
But Joe Lubzinski hit a bit of a snag, so to speak. He needed a steering wheel on his boat. They could buy them from Taiwan and the UK, the only two countries who sold them at the time, but they weren't right for their purposes.
In 1951, the Marine Products Company was born on No. 3 Road.
The Lubzinski brothers manufactured mahogany steering wheels for boats of all makes and models and little did they know at the time that their "dilemma" would become a world-renowned company.
