Richmond Mounties are warning drivers in the city to take extra care when leaving their vehicles as there was a spike in vehicle break-ins over the weekend.
“It takes very little time to break a window, reach in, and steal the contents. A shopping bag, purse, wallet, backpack, personal electronics, loose change, it could be stolen in the time it takes you to read this sentence, said Cpl. Dennis Hwang in a press release.”
According to Richmond RCMP, it doesn’t matter if your car is parked on the street, in a parkade, in a driveway or at a shopping mall – the common denominator when something of value is visible to a thief.
“Thieves are not going to waste their time breaking into a car if there is nothing for them to steal. Don’t make it any easier for thieves,” Hwang said. “Make sure your vehicle is secured, locked, and valuables kept out of sight. If you notice anyone suspicious looking into vehicles, please contact us immediately.”
