The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:
Tsawwassen
March 29, 4:19 p.m., Boundary Bay Regional Park: Police were called to the park as it was alleged there were citizens in and around the park not following social distancing guidelines.Officers attended and did not notice anyone going against the recommendations for social distancing. During working hours these type of complaints should be directed to City of Delta bylaws department.
April 2, 8 p.m., 5100-block of 10A Avenue: Police were dispatched to a report of a theft from auto. The vehicle was left unlocked. A few items were taken from the vehicle and no damage noted. This is a reminder to all residents to ensure you lock your vehicle when left unattended, or at a minimum remove all belongings, as thieves will steal anything in sight.
April 2, 8:40 p.m., 5100-block of 6th Avenue: Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was observed speeding in the area. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside test was conducted and the driver failed. A three-day immediate roadside prohibition was given to the driver and the vehicle was towed.
April 2, 10:54 p.m., Swan Road and Hawk Lane: Police were advised of a suspicious person in the area who appeared to be looking into car windows. Officers attended and located the male. The male was checked and he had a small amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia in his possession, which he voluntarily surrendered to police for destruction. The male continued on his way, and police did not note any vehicles damaged or broken into.
April 3, 1:13 p.m., Ferry Causeway: Police were asked to attend the ferry dock to assist with a passenger who did not wake up after the ferry had docked. The male allegedly had fallen asleep with his pants part way off. The officers attended, woke the passenger and escorted him off the ferry without any further incidents. The passenger was also warned of the consequences of indecent exposure.
April 4, 11 p.m., 1300-block of 56th Street: DPD received a report of a missing elderly patient from a local care home. Police members responded and flooded the area in attempt to locate the patient. With all resources out looking for the patient, police successfully located the individual and safely transported the patient back to the care home.
Ladner
March 30,11:53 a.m., 4100-block of Salish Sea Drive: Police were called to attend for a report of a collision. Upon arrival, it was noted the driver had passed out while driving, hitting a parked vehicle. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving suspension due to suspected drug use. There were no injuries.
April 2, 8:13 p.m., 6100-block of Ferry Road: Complainant advised police of occupants of two vehicles sitting in the area drinking. Police arrived to find five individuals with open liquor, but no one with care and control over a vehicle. One individual who was intoxicated and carrying open liquor was issued a violation ticket under the Liquor Control Act. Vehicles were legally parked, so all parties were sent home on foot without issue after being advised of social distancing protocols.
April 4, 5:51 p.m., 3400-block of River Road: Complainant reported five men sitting by the road drinking beers. Police warned the men not to drink in public and to respect social distancing. The men were compliant and did not appear intoxicated. They were driven from the area by sober drivers.
