Shopping fraud lands at YVR

If you have received a cheque in the mail from YVR (Vancouver International Airport) confirming you as a mystery or secret shopper, don't buy it.

If you have received a cheque in the mail from YVR (Vancouver International Airport) confirming you as a mystery or secret shopper, don't buy it.

The airport authority advised the public Monday the cheques are part of an international fraud scheme which informs the recipient they have qualified for a job as a secret/mystery shopper and instructs them to cash the cheque and then send a wired cash transfer to a specified account.

The notice does not specify the shopping has to be done in stores at the airport.

YVR officials were notified of the fraud when an attempt was made to process one of the cheques.

The matter is now under investigation by the RCMP and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

The public is being asked to call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or the RCMP if they have any information or have received a counterfeit YVR cheque.
