A Richmond man set to be sentenced for four sex-related crimes dating as far back as 2015 will not be sentenced until next year.

Satvir Sanghera pleaded guilty last December to two counts of sexual assault in December 2015 and April 2019, and two counts of obtaining or communicating for sexual services in April 2016 and June 2019.

He was absent during his sentencing hearing at Richmond Provincial Court on Monday, Nov. 27, and his lawyer, who appeared on his behalf, said Sanghera had been hospitalized due to serious medical issues.

He requested Sanghera's sentencing hearing be adjourned until next year, which was granted by the court.

Sanghera originally faced 17 charges including sexual assault and possession of child pornography and was set to go to trial, which was delayed twice.

Richmond RCMP's serious crimes unit began looking into the case in 2018 and released Sanghera's photo to the public in 2020 in hopes of encouraging other victims to come forward. The incidents allegedly took place in Richmond, Vancouver and Coquitlam.

Sanghera is set to return to Richmond Provincial Court on Jan. 15, 2024 to fix the dates for his sentencing hearing.
