B.C.’s seniors advocate, Isobel Mackenzie, is scheduled to speak on benefits and services available to seniors in Richmond this Thursday.

The role of the seniors advocate is to monitor and analyze seniors’ services and issues throughout the province. The advocate also makes recommendations to the government and service providers to alleviate any problems.

Each year, the advocate must report to the Minister of Health on the Office of the Seniors Advocate’s activities.

Last October, Mackenzie spoke at Kwantlen Polytechnic University where she dispelled some myths about seniors, including the rate of dementia and the number of seniors that end up in care homes.

On Feb. 1, Mackenzie will speak in the main sanctuary of the South Arm United Church at 11051 No. 3 Rd at 1:00. Her presentation is open to the public.
