One of Steveston’s most beloved fundraising events, the Grapes, Hops and Bites Festival, is back next month.

Organized by the Steveston Rotary Club, the event will offer various local foods and will showcase live music performances. Proceeds benefit the club and, hence, the community.

“We expect an exceptional turnout among people wanting to sample food, beer and wine supplied by our loyal supporters in Steveston and the surrounding area,” said Marion Whiting, public relations director for the club, adding there will also be a live auction.

Launched in 2002 as the Steveston Wine Festival, this is the club’s major fundraising event, which has raised over $600,000 to date.

Programs benefitting from this include the Write to Read Project, which provides books and libraries to remote areas; the Rotary International’s Polio Plus program, which helps with the eradication of polio worldwide; and the Seniors Christmas Luncheon. The club is also currently sponsoring a student in Mexico.

The festival takes place May 11, from 7-10 p.m. The $60 ticket allows attendees to have an evening where they are free to eat and drink to their heart’s content. Tickets on sale at GrapesHopsAndBites.ca.
