The Rotary Club of Richmond is set to donate almost $30,000 to veterans and artistic programming Wednesday (June 27).

The funds were raised from the club's 50th anniversary gala, which featured a Yellow Ribbon Tribute to Canada's service men and women.

The three cheques will go to Colonel Grant Smith for the 15th Field Artillery Regiment to support the veterans ($20,000); to Major Ted Hawthorn for the BC Regiment to send a veteran to the battlefield tours in Europe ($2,500); and to Major Graham Brown, executive director of the Rotary Hospice House, for the house's music therapy program ($6,571).

The donations were set to be made over lunch at the River Rock Casino Buffet restaurant at noon.

The Rotary Club recently held its 50th anniversary in April.

It featured appearances from community members such as Mayor Malcolm Brodie, MLA Linda Reid and MP Alice Wong, as well as performances by the Band of the 15th Field Royal Canadian Artillery Regiment and a silent auction.
