Richmond RCMP are asking for video footage of an alleged arson in Richmond city centre this past weekend.
Police officers responded to a report of a fire in the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 17 in the 8300-block of Granville Avenue, near St. Albans Street.
Posts on social media show a fire outside the 7-Eleven on the south side of Granville Avenue and someone trying to put it out with a fire extinguisher.
A “person of interest” has been identified, RCMP said in a press release, and the matter is under investigation.
RCMP said they are aware of footage that has been circulating on social media, and are asking anyone with this footage to contact police directly.
“Sharing information with us will ensure it becomes part of the official investigation and helps hold those responsible accountable,” said Cpl. Melissa Lui, Richmond RCMP media relations officer.
An employee reported the fire, and Richmond Fire-Rescue responded and put it out. There were no reported injuries, according to RCMP.
