Roaming huskies may have struck before in Richmond

The BC SPCA is investigating whether the pair of dogs that caused havoc last weekend is the same as the ones who injured a small dog in Aberdeen earlier this year

These huskies were responsible for injuring a small dog in Aberdeen Dog Park in February. The BC SPCA is investigating whether they're the same dogs causing havoc in the Aberdeen area last week.

A report earlier this week of a pair of huskies roaming a Richmond neighbourhood could be connected to a similar incident in February in a dog park less than a block away.

The Richmond News reported how a man was walking his dog on Cunningham Drive, close to Garden City and Cambie roads, on Saturday when two huskies ran at his dog and attacked it.

Neither of them were injured, but a media report in February describes how a tiny dog was attacked and injured by two huskies in Aberdeen Dog Park, a couple of streets away from last week’s incident.

A spokesperson for the BC SPCA – which is investigating the recent incident – confirmed that it is “actively working with the city to respond to the issue and are aware of the previous incident.”

After initially leaving the scene of the February incident, the huskies’ owner apparently paid for the vet bills for the small dog.

As for last weekend’s attack, Ken Hui said he wanted to get the word out in case a child or a dog got injured. Hui was also worried the roaming huskies could cause an accident when they crossed roads.

He also said that other dog walkers in the area “shared their harrowing experience with similar encounters with unleashed and unaccompanied huskies roaming the neighbourhood surrounding the Talmey neighbourhood Park.”
