Richmond’s so-called “Highway to Heaven” is not just a colourful stretch of the city’s multi-faith community.

The No. 5 Road corridor is also a place for students from across the Lower Mainland to visit and learn about different religions.

The India Cultural Centre of Canada’s Gurdwara Nanak Niwas continues to be a very popular destination for students of all ages and backgrounds.

Last week, two separate groups from schools outside of Richmond paid a visit to the Gurdwara to learn about inter-religious/intercultural harmony, the Sikh religion and the South Asian community.

First up was a group of 50 Grade 8 students and their teachers from Point Gray Secondary in Vancouver, who visited as part of their social studies course on comparative religions.

Then, a few days later, a group of young people from Abbotsford's Lifeteams School of Youth Outreach turned up.

These young people were training to become outreach youth workers, with an aim of reaching into the lives of vulnerable youth.
