Dozens of Richmond Sikhs celebrated the winter festival of Lohri at the Gurdwara on No. 5 Road

Last Thursday was a special day for the local Sikh community.

By all accounts, “Lohri” was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the No. 5 Road Gurdwara in Richmond.

Lohri is a popular winter Punjabi folk festival, celebrated primarily in northern India and is believed by many that it marks the passing of the winter solstice.

Six families, who were recently blessed with a child, and their friends, relatives and members of the congregation enjoyed the celebration at the temple.

Both the Darbar (prayer) Hall and the Langar Hall were overflowing with devotees.

The Gurdwara Management Committee told the Richmond News that it was very thankful to all of the devotees who took the time to enjoy this celebration, which included a bonfire at the back of the Gurdwara.
