The man making a habit of saving stricken animals on Richmond’s roads has done it again.
Last December, the Richmond News reported how Jeff Rai risked his own safety to help an injured dog lying prostrate on No. 5 Road near Westminster Highway.
Last Monday at about 8:30 p.m., Rai was at it again, this time stopping traffic on No. 5 Road to come to the aid of a family cat, which was still alive, but couldn’t move due to injuries presumably sustained by a car.
After trying to call the local animal shelter, Rai decided to pull the cat to the safety of the sidewalk.
Dashcam footage from his car shows the animal lover carrying out the rescue.
After about 10 minutes of comforting the cat, two people, claiming to be the animal’s owners, arrived with “tears in their eyes,” according to Rai.
“The cat seemed to spring to life, got up and ran and hid close by. But the couple finally got hold of it and took it away; it seemed to be okay.”
Rai said drivers speeding up and down No. 5 Road continues to be a major issue for public safety on that stretch.
“Somebody needs to address the speed on this road, it’s crazy,” he added.
