Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and Trinity Western University (TWU), both with campuses in Richmond, are joining other post-secondary institutions across the Lower Mainland in suspending in-person classes March 16 to 18.
Alan Davis, president of KPU, said in a statement that the school has put in-person classes on hold until March 19 to make sure their students and employees are safe and well.
“Alternative forms of instructional delivery will be communicated on March 19,” said Davis, adding that students will be contacted by March 20 regarding their exams.
KPU’s Faculty of Trades and Technology and Horticulture level one and four courses are exceptions, according to Davis.
“Due to the technical and hands-on nature of these programs, in-person instruction will continue, but proper social distancing measures will be in effect in the classrooms, shops and labs,” the release explains.
Meanwhile, TWU has also suspended classes at all of its campuses and will be transitioning to online instruction as of March 18 for the rest of the semester.
However, according to its website, TWU’s campuses will remain open with continued support from staff and faculty for students who are living on campus.
B.C.’s health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, announced that all events and gatherings of more than 50 people are to be postponed or cancelled.
