A Richmond real estate company has apologized after a woman called out one of its realtors for picking fruit from a pear tree on her property during a viewing.
The homeowner, Jill Von Dae, took to multiple Facebook groups to share the story.
Von Dae said Peter T. Yang, an agent from Luxmore Realty, showed two potential buyers the property last Saturday.
At some point during the home viewing, Yang noticed a pear tree and berry bushes in the garden. He went outside and started picking the fruit and invited the potential buyers to join him.
“Taking advantage of the fact that we weren’t present on site, he started picking the fruit off the trees and eating it. Greedily, he went back to his car and got plastic bags and returned and stood there and picked every last fruit from our garden. He instructed the viewers to happily join him...They spat all their seeds out all over the ground. Who does this?” Von Dae wrote, adding the garden was the “pride and joy” of her grandmother who recently passed away.
Von Dae noted they have footage captured on a home security camera showing Yang taking pears from a tree. She said Yang later offered to give the fruit back as compensation, which she called “ludicrous.”
Luxmore Realty issued an apology on its website and Facebook account.
“On behalf of Luxmore Realty, my team members and I extend our sincere apologies for the terrible experience one of our clients had with our real estate agent Peter T. Yang. I understand that Peter made a really irresponsible and unprofessional behaviour (decision) during last Saturday’s home showing,” wrote Luxmore Realty’s managing broker Charles Zhou.
The apology also states that Yang “feels guilty and regrets his mistakes” and is now making an official apology and providing compensation to the homeowners.
