Kajaks Track and Field Club is hosting a free event in Richmond this weekend

Richmond’s Kajaks Track and Field Club is hosting a free event on the weekend to encourage elementary school kids to take up athletics.

The third annual “Try Track” drop-in event will take place at Minoru Park on Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Although there’s no registration, participants are asked to arrive at around 8:45 a.m. so they can be grouped and orientated accordingly.

People attending should look for the white Kajaks tent near the grandstand at the track.

The participants get to try different track and field sports and will be going through different stations, such as running, jumping and throwing.

This is a free event, now in its 3rd year, to offer the community a chance to try track and field.

According to Kajaks, the events is a “good foundation sport that teaches physical literacy transferable to other sports.

“And one of the club's goals is to promote lifelong love for physical activity through sports, engaging kids early to stay active and have a healthy lifestyle.”
