Meeting people can be hard. Sure, there are apps for that now, but if you’ve got a furry friend, how do you make sure your new “special someone” is compatible with your four-legged companion?

Hoping to make space for pets in the dating world, DogClub, a Richmond-based start-up company, is hosting an event for singles and their dogs this Saturday. The first event of its kind in the Lower Mainland, those participating will get to participate in conversation and friendly games that revolve around their dog.

“After all, if you’re going to fall in love, you need your best friend’s approval,” DogClub’s event page said.

Beyond Saturday’s event, DogClub, which is located in the Richmond Public Market at Westminster Highway and Buswell Street says its changing the way people socialize with their dog. Designed as a social lounge for dog owners, DogClub hopes owners can participate in their dog’s socialization in a warm, comfortable atmosphere.
