The Richmond Special Olympics soccer team came third in its division at the 2022 Super Summer Series event in Abbottsford.
A total of 13 teams took part in the two-day event and Richmond – according to one of their players, Vincent Li – “played very hard” and “had lots of fun” over the busy two days.
The Super Summer Series was created due to the pandemic forcing the cancellation of the 2021 Special Olympics BC Summer Games and the 2022 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games.
Provincial and territorial Special Olympics chapters across the country worked together to develop the series, which is a new pathway for athletes to qualify for spots on the national team for the 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin.
