A Richmond school was put in a hold and secure Friday afternoon (Dec. 4) after a man allegedly told a child he had a gun.

A child at a school in the 10300 block of Seacote Road told staff that a man had threatened him by saying he had a gun, according to Richmond RCMP.

Police were called and the school was placed in a hold and secure – which means school activity continues as normal inside the building, but the exterior doors are locked – around 1:10 p.m.

The man was found and taken into custody, and officers confirmed he did not have a gun, RCMP said.

“Based on the investigation, officers determined charges would not be sought and the male was released from custody,” Mounties said in a statement.

Police didn’t say which school was put in hold and secure, however, Daniel Woodward elementary is in the area.
