Richmond Mounties are investigating reports of possible shots fired in Richmond’s downtown core Thursday afternoon.

Police say the incident appears to have been targeted.

At approximately 4:35 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 3), multiple police units attended the 4500-block of No. 3 Road, between Alderbridge Way and Cambie Road, after receiving reports of shots fired.

At the scene, officers found evidence confirming that shots had been fired, and, speaking with witnesses, learned that one man had allegedly discharged a firearm during a physical altercation.

According to Richmond RCMP, the men involved in the incident were described to police only as South Asian. They fled the area in three vehicles: a black Jetta, white Audi and white Mercedes.

The motive for the incident, which appears to have been targeted, is unknown at this time, RCMP said.

“This is a busy time of the day in the downtown core,” said Cpl. Adriana Peralta with the Richmond RCMP.

“It’s fortunate the reckless actions of this individual did not result in an innocent bystander being injured.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2020-33038.
