Outdoor concerts and beautiful summer days are the two things that seem to fit hand in hand perfectly.

Richmond residents are being invited to join musicians from the Vancouver Pops Performing Arts Society for a free outdoor concert this weekend at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet near YVR.

On Saturday, the Vancouver Pops Orchestra will play the Pirates of the Caribbean from Disney, Aladdin and My Neighour Totoro from the Japanese fantasy film.

On Sunday, the Vancouver Pops Choir will perform the American musical Hairspray and La La Land, a 2016 American romantic musical comedy-drama film.

Tom Kuo, musical director from Vancouver Pops Performing Arts Society, told the Richmond News that the songs aim to bring memories back to audiences and, most importantly, light up the “spark” in people’s hearts.

“Usually, after people see our concerts, they get inspired. Some were even inspired to take up a musical instrument because that’s something they dreamed of and never had a chance to.

“Many people like music before elementary or high school, but because of life and work, they must step away from their passion. So, when they come to see our concert, we suddenly light a spark within them,” said Kuo, noting that some people he got to know through the outdoor concert later became part of his group.

You can enjoy the performance at McArthurGlen on Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
