Richmond RCMP respond to reports of 'distraught man with firearm' in park

Police secured the area around Blundell and Garden City roads on Saturday night and no firearm was found.

Richmond RCMP sent a man to the hospital after receiving reports of a distraught man possibly in possession of a firearm.

The area around Blundell and Garden City roads was temporarily blocked off on Saturday night after police received reports of a distraught man possibly possessing a firearm.

According to Adriana O'Malley, Richmond RCMP spokesperson, Richmond RCMP received the reports shortly before 11 p.m. on Dec. 16.

Police determined the man in question was in a park near Blundell and Garden City roads and secured the area.

Richmond RCMP also sought help from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team, as well as the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services.

"The man was ultimately located and safely taken into custody," said O'Malley, who added he was sent to a local hospital.

No firearm was found at the scene.
