Richmond RCMP is hosting two career drives in the city in a bid to find local officers

Richmond RCMP is preparing to launch a recruitment drive for officers to join the detachment.

The local Mounties will host two recruitment sessions in Richmond in the fall, one at Trinity Western University in Lansdowne Shopping Centre and one at the RCMP’s No. 5 Road detachment.

The RCMP said it’s kicking off the campaign because it wants to identify “local potential applicants.”

“Like our country, the RCMP is a diverse organization that is always looking for quality recruits with diverse backgrounds, education and skill sets,” said Chief Supt. Dave Chauhan.

“We know there are potential RCMP recruits living right here in Richmond. This campaign is aimed at increasing the accessibility of our recruiting process so that we can engage our community at a local level.”

The RCMP says it can offer a wide variety of specialization opportunities, including: front-line policing, First Nations policing, northern and rural policing, drugs, organized, financial and major crime investigations, national security and integrated border enforcement, VIP protective services, police dog services, forensic identification services, marine services; explosives disposal, tactical troop, emergency response team and international peace operations.

Richmond residents will see members of Richmond RCMP’s Community Engagement Team at many local community events over the next number of months, added Chauhan.

The RCMP’s two career events will be:

September 16, at 2 p.m.: Trinity Western University – Lansdowne Mall;

October 12, at 7 p.m.: Richmond RCMP Detachment, 11411 No 5 Rd.
