Richmond RCMP are investigating a suspicious incident after an elderly man was found in the water off Dyke Road Saturday morning and was later pronounced deceased.
Around 8 a.m. Mounties were called to the area for a report of a male in the water. Cpl. Dennis Hwang, media relations officer for the Richmond RCMP told the Richmond News that "he was in such a state that he received some emergency medical assistance." He was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
Circumstances surrounding the incident are considered suspicious and the RCMP is continuing with a follow up in the 7000 block of Dyke Road. Hwang said there is presently no risk to the public, however.
“The Richmond RCMP Serious Crimes Unit is taking the lead in this investigation," Hwang said in a press release. “We are asking for the public’s assistance for any information regarding this incident. If someone drove, cycled, or walked in this area and noticed anything around the morning of March 10, please contact our Serious Crimes Unit."
