A fire on Friday afternoon caused by a suspected drug lab near Calder court is under investigation, according to Richmond RCMP.

The Richmond Fire-Rescue was called to put out a structure fire near the 5000 block of Calder court around 2 p.m. on July 17.

After the fire was put out, evidence of a “drug extraction lab” was found by the fire crew who notified the police immediately, according to Adriana Peralta, with the Richmond RCMP.

On Saturday, RCMP’s Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team removed “various bagged evidence” from the house.

“These drug extraction labs can pose huge potential risk to the public and fortunately no one was injured,” said Peralta, adding the investigation is ongoing.

No suspects or arrests have been made.

Richmond RCMP is asking anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 604-278-1212 and cite file number 2020-19068 or call Crime Stoppers.
