Richmond RCMP executed two "Project Boost and Bust" operations on March 9 and 21.

Richmond RCMP arrested 19 retail theft suspects on two separate days and recovered more than $7,000 worth of stolen merchandise.

Police held two operations, on March 9 and 21, as part of their "Project Boost and Bust" project to fight property crime and retail theft.

Four of the 19 suspects were from Richmond and the rest were mainly from Vancouver, according to a Richmond RCMP press release.

Clothing and electronics were the most sought items by the arrested suspects. Most suspects travelled to the stores by SkyTrain and some tried leaving via ride-hailing service.

Richmond RCMP said partnerships with businesses such as Lululemon, JD Sports, Aritzia and BC Liquor Store helped in the arrests of the suspects.

"Our crime analysis unit has identified retail theft as an increasing trend, prompting a priority targeted response," noted the press release.

"This operation showcases the determination of [Richmond RCMP] and local businesses to maintain Richmond as a safe community for both retailers and customers."

Police ask people to contact them if they have witnessed or have information about a potential crime.

They can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.solvecrime.ca to stay anonymous.
