The Richmond Olympic Oval will be opening up its doors again next week.
The announcement comes after Premier John Horgan announced Wednesday that B.C. will be gradually entering Phase 3 of its Restart Plan.
The Oval will begin its own “phased approach to resuming programs and services” July 2, when it will reopen its doors to the public, according to an announcement on the facility’s website.
The announcement states that the Oval has taken steps to limit contact, promote physical distancing and enhanced hygiene.
Some changes that facility users can expect to see at the Oval include:
- Revised hours of operation to accommodate customers’ schedules while allowing for increased cleaning protocols;
- Reconfiguration of activities to open-air spaces in the facility to increase physical distancing.
- Advance bookings only – there will only be a prescribed set of activities permitted at the Oval; and capacity has been reduced to allow for physical distancing. Only one activity registration will be permitted per day;
- Fees – members will have the option to reactivate their membership, pay a $12 drop-in fee for all activities except climbing ($15 drop-in fee), or keep their membership suspended for the interim;
- Cleaning and sanitization – Cleaning services have been increased, according to the Oval’s website, and participants will be asked to clean before and after using equipment. Hand sanitizer dispensers and portable sinks will also be placed around the facility.
- Enhanced wayfinding and signage;
- Staff use personal protective equipment (optional for guests) and plexiglass barriers;
- Heightened screening and security protocols.
According to the announcement, additional information will be provided in the coming days, including the schedule of activities and links for registration.
