A taste of Japan awaits young and old this weekend at the Richmond Museum.
The museum is hosting an afternoon of fun and discovery, called Experience Japan Day on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
The public will have the chance to tour the museums Edo exhibit, play hands-on Japanese games, try your skill at origami-making, listen to Japanese music and partake in a traditional tea ceremony.
The event has been organized to run alongside the museums current exhibit, Edo: Arts of Japan's Last Shogun Age.
The exhibit features art and artefacts from the Art Gallery of Greater Victorias extensive Japanese collection, works on loan from the Canadian Museum of Civilization and private individuals.
This travelling exhibition draws upon a wide variety of Edo period art from1603 to 1868, notably paintings, prints, ceramics and lacquerwares. Highlights of the exhibit also include a palanquin, or sedan chair, and an array of samurai suits.
On Experience Japan Day, local Japanese art historian Maiko Behr will be conducting free public tours of the exhibit at 1 p.m., 1:50 p.m., 2:40 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. in the museum exhibit gallery.
Experience Japan Day is a free program of the Richmond Museum Society. It is suitable for all ages and no registration required.
The museum is located in the Richmond Cultural Centre at 7700 Minoru Gate.
