Richmond mail thief gets 15-month conditional sentence

A woman received a 15-month conditional sentence for a string of charges related to mail theft.

A woman who pleaded guilty to a string of charges related to mail theft in Richmond was recently sentenced to serve a 15-month conditional sentence in the community.

Jennina Marie Resurreccion Baroja, 34, appeared in Richmond Provincial Court on Feb. 21 to receive her sentence after pleading guilty in October 2023.

She received a one-day custodial sentence served concurrently for breaking and entering a dwelling on Blundell Road, using a forged document in Coquitlam, stealing two parcels under $5,000 in Richmond, possessing stolen property and dealing with identity documents without a lawful excuse and breaching her probation orders between February 2022 and March 2023.

Richmond Provincial Court Judge Glenn Lee also gave Baroja a conditional sentence of 15 months with 18 months' probation for attempting to defraud someone for under $5,000 in Richmond on Jan. 14, 2023.

Her conditions forbid her from going to various addresses in Richmond and the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam, possessing tools such as pry bars, bolt cutters and hammers unless inside her residence or for employment, possessing keys or identification documents except her own and equipment such as card laminators, magnetic strip encoders or blank debit, bank or credit cards.

Baroja is also required to follow a curfew to stay in her residence between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for the first 12 months of her conditional sentence.

She was exempt from paying the victim fine surcharge.
