Richmond Public Library is partnering with Xinhua Bookstore to hold its first-ever free, drop-in Chinese Book Fair July 21-25 at the Brighouse (Main) Branch.
This book fair gives people the opportunity to buy the newest, most popular books from China, in simplified Chinese, said multilingual services coordinator Wendy Jang.
It promises to be a popular event and weve invited Mayor Brodie and City Council, as well as the Deputy Consul General Li Wenci from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Vancouver to the opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on July 21, added Jang.
A representative from the Xinhua Bookstore went to Beijing and selected over 10,000 of the newest and most in-demand books from China in simplified Chinese characters for this book fair. With a huge variety of books to choose from on all sorts of subjects for adults and children, its a great opportunity to buy new books at great prices, added Jang.
Subjects will cover everything from novels to picture books, cookbooks, parenting, technology, history, biography, sports, business, health, travel, language, culture, philosophy, self help, science, art, literature and more. There will also be Chinese stationery for sale. Xinhua bookstore owns the largest chain of bookstores in China, with over 14,000 stores. There are also branches in Hong Kong, Macao, New York, San Diego, London and Surrey, BC.
This event is open to the community, and libraries and schools are welcome.
