Richmond Food Bank Society is launching a new pilot program for seniors starting April.

The food bank will start testing its pilot program called "70+ Years Only Mornings," starting April 4, 2022, according to a Richmond Food Bank Twitter post.

Richmond Food Bank said they are anticipating longer wait times due to "the growing need" for their services.

Seniors 70 and older will be able to line up starting at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and draw a random number, which will allow seniors to begin food pick-ups between 11 and 11:30 a.m.

Family members can help their parents, who are 70 years old and older, pick up food as long as they are on site with them.

Clients who are not 70 and older are asked to not arrive at the food bank property until after 11:30 a.m.

Distribution hours will still be the same for the following food bank locations:

  • Cedarbridge: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Cedarbridge: Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.
  • West Richmond Express: Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
  • Daniels Road Depot: Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
