Richmond fire connected to suspected drug lab

A fire on Wednesday appears to have been caused by a clandestine drug lab on Elmbridge Way, according to Richmond RCMP. Shortly before 2:30 p.m.

A fire on Wednesday appears to have been caused by a clandestine drug lab on Elmbridge Way, according to Richmond RCMP.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., Richmond RCMP were called to Elmbridge and Hollybridge ways to help Richmond Fire-Rescue with a structure fire in a building complex.

After the fire was put out, a 30-year-old Richmond man who was known to police was arrested.

“The Richmond RCMP Organized Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance from the BC RCMP Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) Team,” said Cpl Dennis Hwang with Richmond RCMP.

There were no injuries caused by the fire, according to Tim Wilkinson, Richmond Fire-Rescue fire chief.

Traffic was blocked on Elmbridge Way during the incident.
