Dancers and dance lovers of all ages and abilities are invited to celebrate International Dance Day by taking part in Richmond’s online Grand Plié next Wednesday.
This year’s annual Grand Plié will be led by Katherine Somody, a long-time ballet instructor at the Richmond Arts Centre. She will lead a mini ballet barre class for all to enjoy from the comfort of home.
Participants don’t need ballet slippers as short socks will suffice. The ballet barre can just be the back of a chair at waist-level.
Grand Plié participants can also take part in the Grand Plié Selfie Challenge by sharing photos of their participation on the social media platforms of their choice and using the hashtag #RichmondConnects.
International Dance Day has been taking place since 1982 on April 29, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet and this is the seventh year the Richmond Arts Centre has taken part.
The Grand Plié takes place Wednesday, April 29 from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.
