Richmond RCMP said an elderly woman was hit by a grey GMC SUV on Railway Avenue, near the intersection with Lancing Road, Thursday night.

An elderly woman is in hospital in serious condition after she was struck by a vehicle Thursday night on Railway Avenue.

Richmond RCMP said they responded to a report of a pedestrian collision on Railway Avenue near the intersection with Lancing Road around 5:30 p.m.

The woman had been hit by a grey GMC sport utility vehicle (SUV) and was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

Poor visibility and weather were factors in the crash, RCMP said. Alcohol and speed were not.

“This was a tragic incident for everyone involved,” said Cpl. Ian Henderson, Richmond RCMP spokesperson.

“What makes it even more sad is that it was completely preventable. Whether we are drivers or pedestrians – we all have a part to play in promoting pedestrian safety.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Richmond Mounties at 604-278-1212, quoting file number 21-3291.
