Richmond COVID-19 cases have doubled in the past week.

Weekly COVID-19 cases in Richmond have more than doubled in the past week, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

Forty-seven new cases were detected in Richmond between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7, up from 21 new cases the previous week and 13 the week prior to that.

This follows a provincial trend of rising cases of COVID-19.

On Wednesday, the province reported 536 new cases, but almost half of those – 258 cases - were in the Interior.

While vaccination coverage continues to rise in Richmond, for example, 88 per cent of Steveston residents have received at least one dose, Vancouver Coastal Health is scaling back their vaccination sites and will focus on pop-up clinics.

River Rock Casino will continue to operate as a vaccination site this fall, along with the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver and the ICBC site in North Vancouver.
