A flood last Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Caring Place in Richmond affected operations at Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives and other non-profits in the building.

A flood last week has impacted the operations of some non-profits at the Caring Place on Granville Avenue.

In an email newsletter, Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives described the incident as a “major flood,” which affected at least two floors of the building that houses several non-profits.

RCRG’s offices sustained damage from the flood, but temporary work stations have been set up, the non-profit said in the newsletter.

The Richmond Early Years Library, operated by the Child Care Resource and Referral Centre, however, will be closed for the rest of the summer.

The library experienced “significant flooding” that damaged carpets, the ceiling and furniture.

However, if anyone needs resources from the library, staff can assist in locating them, said RCRG executive director Jocelyn Wong.

“Thankfully, most resources were spared, but it will still take some time for the library to get back on its feet,” reads the RCRG newsletter.

The flood took place during ongoing construction, Wong told the Richmond News, but she deferred to the Caring Place for more information as RCRG is only a tenant in the building.

“Certainly, we aren't yet operating at 100%, but clients who visit our office can expect to receive prompt and friendly service, as, we hope, has always been the case,” reads the newsletter post from RCRG.

The Caring Place is undergoing balcony renovations, and the membranes had been removed when a heavy rain on Aug. 6 caused flooding, Belinda Boyd of the Caring Place Society told the Richmond News.

The head office of Aspire — formerly Richmond Society for Community Living — which also operates at the Caring Place had a post on its website, as of Friday morning, that their office is closed “until further notice” due to the flood, but all other locations are operating.

“While we hope to open again as soon as possible, things are a little uncertain at the moment,” reads Aspire’s post. “We appreciate your patience as we assess the scope of the damage and determine next steps.”

“Thank you again for your understanding as we work through this unexpected disruption,” Aspire added.

The flood has also affected the Richmond Women’s Resource Centre in the building. They were under renovation when the flood took place, according to a post on Instagram.
