The City of Richmond received two awards on Monday for its financial reporting – one of them, the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, the city has received 16 years in a row.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recognized Richmond for its 2017 Annual Report with the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting as well as with the Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for its 2017 Annual Report, which is a document meant to give highlights of the annual report for broader public distribution. This second award has been given to the city nine years running.
The GFOA gives out the awards to encourage municipalities to publish high quality reports that go beyond what is required by Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
The awards were formally presented to council at its meeting on March 11. Both versions of the 2017 report are available online at www.richmond.ca/cityhall/finance/reporting/reports or from City Hall upon request.
