The third annual cross-Canadian cultural celebration returns to Richmond next weekend.

With more than 60 free activities planned throughout the city, it has become a national leader in embracing Culture Days from Sept. 28 to 30.

This annual event is an opportunity to publicly showcase the enormous talent and creativity that exits in our own backyards, said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

Similar to last year, Richmond Cultural Centre positions itself as the hub of the three-day event, which includes demos and activities by visual, performing, and literary artists.

Events range from free workshops in digital photography, origami, and Chinese brush painting to tours at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and Britannia Heritage Shipyard.

The Richmond Public Library does its part by offering a range of activities such as the Beat the Clock book sorting contest and Behind the Book Drops tours.

This year were inviting the public to explore the culture of books from the page to the shelf, said the librarys Culture Days coordinator Lee Ann Smith. Families can have fun at the folding art program and create original origami projects with paper from recycled books and magazines.

Alternatively, other artsy activities include the Community Arts Council of Richmonds Arts and Crafts for Kids at the Thompson Community Centre and the 2nd Annual Richmond Lantern Festival in Minoru Park.
