Richmond RCMP has arrested a suspect who allegedly impersonated the police.
Police say they received a call shortly after 1 p.m. on May 18 from a man who reported being pulled over by a Ford Mustang vehicle with red and blue police lights.
The caller told officers the Mustang driver got out wearing a police badge lanyard and asked to see his driver's license.
"The complainant said he suspected that the man was not a police officer, so he drove away and reported the incident to police from a safe location," said Cpl. Adriana O'Malley, media relations officer with Richmond RCMP.
Later, the same suspect called 911, saying he was following a possible impaired driver.
Frontline Richmond RCMP officers located the suspect and arrested him for impersonating a police officer.
The suspect is described as a 39-year-old South Asian man, between five foot eight and five foot ten, with a medium build and a salt-and-pepper goatee.
He was wearing dark grey clothing, a dark coloured satchel bag and a police badge lanyard.
The suspect's vehicle is described as a grey Ford Mustang. The complainant was driving a beige Dodge Grand Caravan with an Ontario licence plate.
“To date, we have not received any similar reports involving this vehicle or suspect, but are issuing this public warning to identify other potential victims and to prevent any further victimization,” said Insp. Mike Roberts, Officer-in-Charge of Frontline Operations.
Richmond RCMP is also asking for witnesses or dashcam footage of anyone who may be in the area of No. 2 Road between Westminster Highway and Francis Road on May 18 between 12:45 and 1:30 p.m.
An investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212, quoting file number 2025-15521, or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca
