Fun fact about Richmond...
Do you know about the 1918 pandemic in Richmond?
On Oct. 8, 1918, the Township of Richmond received a telegram that the Spanish Influenza was spreading and was told they were allowed to close all schools, churches, theatres and other meeting places.
Richmond schools were then ordered to close, and church services were to be cancelled.
Because of the pandemic, an emergency hospital was set up at the Minoru Park Clubhouse. At least 100 cases of the pandemic were documented in Richmond.
A second wave of the pandemic hit on Jan. 20, 1919, when schools were once again closed.
