The City of Richmond is looking for an artist or graphic designer to create this year’s signature artwork for the maritime festival.

Richmond-based artists are invited to submit up to five pieces of art – in electronic format – of either previous work or something geared to the upcoming Richmond Maritime Festival.

The final design will feature Steveston’s maritime and wood boat heritage.

The winning piece will be used in promotional material for the Richmond Maritime Festival that takes place in late summer.

The deadline to submit artwork is June 2 and the winner will be announced in early July.

City staff will then work with the chosen artist to work on the final design.

The artwork will be used as site décor at the festival and for promotional material, for example, in posters, in transit shelter ads, and in print and online advertising.

The Richmond Maritime Festival takes place at the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site on Aug. 26 and 27, and it’s one of the biggest events the city puts on.

This is the first time in four years that the art competition is being held.

The artist whose work is selected will receive a $1,000 honorarium.

Submissions can be sent via email to [email protected].
