Mounties have issued a warning after multiple residents in Richmond’s Hamilton area reported getting knocks on their doors from people allegedly posing as representatives from home security firm ADT.

Police say homeowners allege the people asked about their home security systems and in some cases attempted to gain access to the homes. These people apparently verbally identified themselves as ADT employees but didn’t present any identification.

“People need to be wary. If someone supposedly representing a company shows up unexpectedly at your house, soliciting personal information, do not tell them anything and definitely do not allow them inside,” said Cp. Adriana Peralta.

Officers have met with representatives from ADT who confirmed the people knocking in the Hamilton area were not associated with the company.

ADT said its genuine employees have ADT-issued security cards and provincial licenses. Door-to-door salespeople will all not ask to go inside, but instead schedule an appointment at a later date.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-2222-8477.
