Steveston Highway overpass at Highway 99 is down to single lane traffic.

Traffic on the Steveston Highway overpass in Richmond is down to one lane after an inspection found a possible structural problem on Wednesday evening.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced that a scheduled engineering inspection found a "potential deficiency" in one of the support piers, causing the lane closures on the overpass.

The eastbound lane on Steveston Highway at Highway 99 has been closed for a structural assessment with alternating, single-lane traffic on the overpass until further notice.

Motorists can get access across Highway 99 via Blundell Road and Westminster Highway crossings and onto northbound Highway 99 from the Alderbridge Way and Highway 91 interchange.

Southbound Highway 99 can be accessed by Westminster Highway.

"Ministry staff will further assess the structure to determine next steps," said the ministry in a media announcement.
